Laser Hair Removal
How does it work?
Laser hair removal is achieved using controlled pulses of light to penetrate the epidermis, which is then absorbed by the melanin in the
hair contained in the follicle. Melanin converts light energy into heat. This heat is transferred to the hair follicle, which is destroyed, making it
unable to produce new hair. The treatment is only effective on growing hairs as these are still attached to the follicle.
How many treatments will it take to rid the area of new hair growth?
Hair clearance in the area(s) treated is usually seen after 5-6 treatments spaced 4-12 weeks apart. Long-term clinical studies have shown that 77% of hair is still absent after 10 years. Intermittent maintenance treatments may be needed for breakthrough growth.
How should I prep for this treatment?
- Avoid topical retinol and Vitamine C in the area to be treated for 4-6 weeks prior to treatment
- Avoid waxing or bleaching the area for 4-6 weeks before and after each treatment
- Shave the area 24-48 hrs prior to your treatment for best results and to minimize risk of burns.
What does the procedure involve?
Depending on the size of the treatment area, most treatments take 10 to 60 minutes. At the time the laser is fired, patients can expect to feel a sensation similar to a small rubber band snap. There is no downtime with this procedure, but it is recommended that clients be vigilant about wearing sunscreen and/or protective covering in the treated area for the week after treatment. It is also recommended to avoid waxing/bleaching in the area being treated for 4-6 weeks after each treatment.
